Monthly Meeting December 2023

This festive evening will guide us through the history of Christmas celebrations. From Neolithic feasts to the Romans of Londinium and their festival of Saturnalia through to Medieval and Tudor times which saw people celebrate Jesus’s birth by giving gifts and organizing elaborate entertainments. Then onwards to the Victorians who took Christmas to new level, with the introduction of many of the traditions we see today. Dr Helen Naylor will take us through this festive and uplifting talk. Add in some nibbles and drinks and the opportunity to wear your Christmas jumper and we have the ideal start to the festive season. Please note we will be meeting at the Barnes Green Day Centre
